Let’s Talk Wedding Fashion!

Let’s Talk Wedding Fashion!

This one is for the bride, groom, parents, and wedding party so get ready! I’ve been so excited to write this as I thought everyone looked so good! I was so happy everyone felt beautiful and handsome and we did it all while trying to find affordable options for our wedding party.

Since we knew many of our party had to travel, we tried being as considerate as possible with the expenses they would have and wedding attire was one we thought a lot about. I was able to help pick dresses for both moms and I loved that they were both so different, but both were so glam and had similar fits. The dads looked great too and had suits tailored perfectly for them! I’ll break this all down by attire, jewelry and accessories, and shoes. Let me know if you have any questions!

Attire: Dan & The Groomsmen

Dan & the Groomsmen purchased their suits from Next and you can choose the fit of your suit, which I think went over well. Just as I wanted my bridesmaids to pick dresses they would feel good in, Dan wanted to make sure the fit of the suit for the groomsmen needed little to no tailoring and fit their style. Dan wore a dark grey suit with the groomsmen wearing light grey, both suit options had multiple fit options from regular to slim.

Now, we gifted the tie and pocket squares to the guys. We had 13 guys to buy items for so we found pocket squares on Amazon and despite the name, cheap neckties was the place to go. It allowed bulk ordering for good quality ties. We were looking for ties with a bit of “texture” to them that would make the suits classic and re-wearable, so we went with a light grey to match! If you are like me and didn’t mind not having the ties not match the bridesmaid dresses, but compliment them, then this would be a great site for you!

For Dan, we went with a floral colored tie to match the wedding and for a unique twist. We purchased his tie and pocket square from Dazi, which shipped quickly, looked great with his suit, and matched the bridesmaids so well! I also surprised him with a few gifts to wear. He wore a tie clip and cufflinks and one of the new watches I got him. You can see those details below!

Attire: Me & My Bridesmaids

Unfortunately due to COVID, not all of my girls could make it, but they all had their dresses. We were able to create a showroom on Azazie to set up ordering and have the dress in a similar dye batch. We went with sky blue dresses and everyone picked a dress they loved on their body. The only parameters I gave was the color, length, and fabric since the color shifts with different fabric. There were hundreds of options and some of my girls tried on dresses at home before buying which I highly recommend! We were able to buy them during Azazie’s big sale for Cyber Monday.

Before my wedding, we hosted a beautiful rehearsal dinner hosted by Dan’s parents and I got the fitted dress on sale from David’s Bridal. I loved the sequin leaf detail and how casual, yet elegant it was. It was so different from my actual wedding dress, which made me love it even more! I got it tailored to not need a bra, but I did wear Spanx shorts.

For myself, I spoke about finding my dress here, but I was always looking for something with a classic A- line silhouette, long train and unique texture and I found it in the “Meryl” dress by Maggie Sottero! I loved the delicate polka dots, shimmer in the beading, and the back was beautiful. The top was a low v but the girls were in and honestly, my chest is a feature of my body I never hid before, so I didn’t plan on hiding it on my wedding day. For our last private dance and exit, I wore my new jean jacket I made with my new monogram, it’s honestly become one of my favorite things to wear!

Attire: The Parents

Dan’s dad got a light grey suit with gold accents from Men’s Warehouse. My Godfather was able to get his suit from a local suit shop in Rochester, which was such a fun experience! The moms both had glam dresses with similar sequin detail. Dan’s mom, in blue/green, got her dress from Dillard’s and my Godmother, in pink/rose gold, got her dress from Macy’s!

Jewelry & Accessories

As I mentioned, I gifted Dan a few things and one of them was the watch he wore for the wedding. As I mentioned, he also wore a tie clip and cufflinks I got him that matched.

I decided against a necklace and bracelet and kept it simple with earrings, a ring, and hair comb. I splurged on the Stella Dareth Colburn comb, wore a ring that matched from Lini + Pop, and got my earrings; which I’ve been drooling over forever, from David’s Bridal. I also choose to wear a veil for the ceremony and went with a crystal beaded cathedral veil. My something blue, old, and borrowed was a piece of my grandmother’s jewelry. It’s a blue bracelet that I put around my bouquet.

Other than ourselves, I also gifted my bridesmaids their earrings– with my maid of honor having a different pair, and gave a jewelry set to my Godmother as well to match her dress!

Shoes

For shoes, we were not picky by any means. We simply asked the groomsmen to wear a brown colored dress shoes and the bridesmaids to wear a nude colored shoe. As for Dan and I, we found shoes we really wanted and knew we would re-wear and cherish. Dan decided on a pair of Steve Madden dress shows for rehearsal dinner and a pair of Stacy Adams Dickinson Oxford dress shoes in cognac. For me, I wanted a lower heel for comfort, but knew I would want a sneaker to change into. I found my heels sooner than my sneakers and went with the classic Betsy Johnson Mari sandaled heels and to try. Then to match the height and avoid dragging my dress, I purchased the J/Slides Hippie in blush, but they were peach looking which I loved!

You can shop most items through the links I included. I also have items linked on LiketoKnow.it as well! Let me know if you have any questions.

Wedding DIYs

Wedding DIYs

I wouldn’t call myself crafty, but I am creative. Once I started building my wedding themed board on Pinterest, I was determined to make a few things to personalize my day. Little did I know the time I would put in and how much I procrastinated. I’ll go through all the DIYs and designs I created and then talk through how I did them. I’ll openly admit not everything I had planned, I ended up completing. There were a few things I sent out to be made at the end of the day, which honestly was less stressful.

Signs:

I was adamant in wanting signs that would match my wedding and were “floating”. I like the look of them, so I decided to focus my time on my welcome sign, bar sign, and seating chart. I’ve included some progress photos and what they looked like at the wedding! Here’s how I did it with the help of one of my bridesmaids, Katie.

Stands are from Ikea | Plywood from Lowe’s: One sheet of plywood was cut to three 2.5ft x 3.5ft boards | Zip Ties | Gold Spray Paint | A small drill | Cricut Machine, Heat Press & HTV | Gold Washi Tape | Paint

I spray painted the zip ties gold to match the washi tape. I primed all the boards and painted them white and then added slices of my wedding colors to each. All the lettering is all black vinyl that I ironed onto the wood after everything was dry. Jager’s picture for the bar and the washi tape went on last with some added help from some super glue and adhesive to ensure it all stayed in place! We included our monogram we used for the wedding and the hashtag for pictures!

Additional Vinyl Projects:

I also took advantage of my Cricut by doing some of the smaller details like my new monogram jean jacket, card box, some trays, our unity sign, and our ring box! I also made a ton of gifts for the wedding party, but that will be a separate post, so stay tuned! The unity sign and ring box were also iron on vinyl and the monogramed trays I completed was normal vinyl encased in resin! The trays held our koozies and the masks and hand sanitizer.

Table Numbers: I purchased wood numbers and reused the gold spray print, simple, pretty and easy!

Frames: For items I lost motivation for or just felt that frames were easier, I used vellum and blue marbled paper for additional signs. I did this for my “COVID” sign with hand sanitizer and masks, the guest book, the champagne tower signs, the small bar sign and the remembrance sign.

You can see examples of all the items mentioned above in some of the pictures below!

Lastly, I told myself that I would be DIY’ing our menus and cake topper and well, that just didn’t happen! I went back to Truly Engaging where we got all our stationary and ordered our menus to match our invites. As for the cake topper, I naturally tapped a local business to design and create it for me. You can check out Simple & Sentimental if you’re looking for a beautiful, customizable, and affordable cake topper for any occasion and so much more! Here’s how they turned out…you’ll get to see the late night snack I surprised Dan with!

Don’t be discouraged if you want to DIY, you’ll figure it out! Let me know if you have any questions about the DIYs I did or need links! Thanks for reading and happy planning!

Prepping for The Wedding: My Self- Care Routine

Prepping for The Wedding: My Self- Care Routine

Planning a wedding can be really stressful and I recognized that quickly. That’s why I was very aware that I needed to build a self-care routine to help me spend time on myself, so that I could relax and feel good! Now, I won’t say it was perfect, but I know that spending time on myself; especially when stressed, was so helpful. This whole year I tried out so many products and services for some “me time” in preparation for the wedding.

Appointments & Treatments:

Well, 2020 threw me for a loop. I started the year strong working with my girl Hilary on a treatment plan for me when I thought the wedding would happen in May. When it comes to treatments, I wanted to ensure I was selecting services that I would maintain. So here’s what I decided on!

  1. Monthly waxing was a must do for me. Everyone has their own opinion on the service, but I have loved the experience and it’s been a great addition to my self care maintenance routine!
  2. Lash Lifts. I did so much research about the lash lift process vs. lash extensions and I just felt more comfortable with the lift. I still wore individual fake lashes for added volume on my big day, but the lift provided such a great base for the wedding. I rarely wore mascara and enjoyed the look of my lashes when they were lifted.
  3. Facials – treat yo self! I highly enjoyed booking facial appointments before the wedding. It felt like a reset for my skin and it provided a healthy base for makeup for my wedding. I did facials about every other month leading up to the wedding, which I think worked out well for me. I’m not an esthetician, so partner with yours to build out the right routine!

Let’s Talk Nails:

Since March and the shut down, I have walked into a nail salon twice. Once to get my nails done for the wedding and one more time to get those off. I loved my wedding nails! They were beautiful, but I also don’t tend to keep my nails long, that’s just my preference. The game changer for me were the press on set from Impress. I usually brought them directly from the site, but have also found them on Amazon. So grab a glass of wine, put on a show, and pamper yourself with an at-home manicure! Here are some of my favorites I’ve ordered.

Skincare: I think this year was a big year for the skincare game. I don’t know about you, but if you are on Tik Tok and follow Hyram, then some of my skincare will look familiar. I have some tried and true products I’ve been using, but lots of new items as well since discovering him. Skincare only does so much though, I was always making sure I drank enough water and taking my makeup off at the end of the day- I admit, I used to be SO bad at that. It took some time to see the changes in my skin, but well worth it in preparation for my big day!

You can take a look at all my products here, the only thing not pictured since I just ran out and ordered more is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lip Therapy. It saved my lips and I’m on my third one, I ordered an extra so I would stop running out, I’m addicted!

Face Wash: I keep CeraVe in my shower & La Roche-Posay at my sink.

Toning Solution: I only use my Ordinary toner at night.

Serums: I use the Ordinary Niacinamide serum in the morning and at night and in addition, at night I add my Ordinary “Buffet” serum after.

Moisturizers: In the morning, I still use my tried and true Clinique Moisture Surge and at night, I use the CeraVe PM Facial Lotion.

Sunscreen: No skin routine is worth having if you don’t use sunscreen! I still go back to my Neutrogena & CeraVe sunscreens, these are also tried and true and one of them is a mineral sunscreen.

Additional Products: For body lotion, I use the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. For Makeup Melting and Cleansing, I use the Ordinary Squalane Cleanser – no need to use water, just get a pea size and massage your face. For heavy makeup days, I occasionally use the Urban Skin RX cleansing bar, but jury is still out about how I feel about the exfoliation pad. Lastly, I SWEAR by my pimple patches by COSRX. Any time I have a pimple that has a white head, I cleanse my face and slap one on at night.

Do you use any of the same skincare? Skincare doesn’t have to be difficult! Pick a cleanser, a moisturizer, and a sunscreen! You got this!

In addition to all of the products, services, and appointments mentioned, I could say that a glass of wine and a bath bomb from LA Suds did the trick some nights. A good book and a night in were just as important in my self care and creating time for myself. Oh, as well as a haircut before the wedding because ya know, quarantine. Find what your wedding prep looks like for you and just ensure that at the end of the day, you’re creating time and space for yourself to relax!

Well, that wraps up what wedding prep looked like and I hope you enjoyed reading! Let me know what you think!

Getting to Geraghty: Engagement Session Reveal

Getting to Geraghty: Engagement Session Reveal

Happy Wedding Wednesday! I’m so excited to share my engagement pictures with you all today. It was such an amazing day and our photographer was absolutely amazing. Every shot was stunning and made me reminisce back on the day over and over again.

We took our engagement pictures in Wilmington and were able plan two outfits. We decided to dress up for the look downtown and went casual for the beach. In each outfit, we still wanted to play off of a similar blue that will be a part of the wedding! I loved that we did it since it makes all of the pictures look cohesive.

I highly encourage you to make sure that you not only get along with your photographer, but that you LOVE their work. Something that drew us to Erin was the effortlessness in her photos. We didn’t want heavily edited photos that were blown out or moody- both which are beautiful, but not us. Not only did we love her style, but her personality was a true fit. She was laid back, joked with us, let us have a pit stop for beer (BIG WIN), and made us feel like we were in our own little world for a few hours! I have linked her below so you can check out more of her and her team’s work.

I plan to post about my prep for the day and additional details next week, but for now…here is a window into our engagement session with Erin Costa!

The weather was perfect, we couldn’t have asked for a better day! We took these photos mid-week on a Wednesday right before the Fall weather decided to visit NC. We chose both downtown Wilmington and Wrightsville beach as it’s where we spend most of our time when on the coast.

Dan and I have spent many nights walking the cobblestone streets and many days laying out in the sun on this sand. It was so important for us to take these pictures in the places we love since we are getting married away from home. We wanted to make sure that these photos were colored with our love and showed off what we call our “2nd home” here in NC. I think we accomplished both!

Picture overload? I just couldn’t help myself! I can’t wait to continue sharing more wedding updates with you guys. Always let me know if you have any suggestions for the series. See you next time!
